Belediye binası-Çorum. The building is NOT Ottoman, as a translated text from a knowledgable site (Çorum Tarihi) has "Built in the first years of the Republic, this building is in Neo-classical style. Especially, this situation is seen in the windows with pointed arches that surround the building from the outside. The lower floor windows are round arched, and the windows on the second floor are made as twin windows. The building has two floors, cut stone was used for its walls and it was covered with a wooden roof. Following the closure of madrasas in the first years of the Republic, a non-governmental organization named "Library Building Private Construction Commission" built this building as a library in 1923. In this building, besides the library service, music lessons were given and the ground floor was used as private workplaces. The library was lowered to the lower floor in 1938 and the upper floor was fully utilized as Çorum Community Center. Upon the burning of the courthouse after the community centers were closed in the 1950s, it was used for courthouse services until the new courthouse was built. It has been used as the City Hall since September 1960." |
